Morgan Spurlock (born 1970) is a celebrated American documentary filmmaker and TV producer. He passed away on May 23, 2024, at the age of 53.
Born to Ben and Phyllis Spurlock, Morgan was raised as a Methodist. After graduation, Morgan began his career as a playwright and the award for his play The Phoenix in 1999 and 2000.
He then created I Bet You Wil but caught prominence from Super Size Me, which was a docudrama released in 2004. Morgan wrote, directed, and produced this documentary film and even starred himself in it.
With Super Size Me, Spurlock earned a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature and it helped him win the first Writers Guild of America Award for Best Documentary Screenplay.
Super Size Me was super successful, grossing $22 million at a budget of $65,000.
After the success of Super Size Me, he came up with Super Size Me 2: Holy Chicken! in 2017. But when he narrated the history of his sexual misconduct through a blog post, the film distribution was stopped. The documentary was scheduled to be released in 2019.
